FAIRBANKS, Alaska — 2,209 fans were in attendance to watch Alaska play Fairbanks and Arizona State on Friday night. They lost 11 seconds but missed penalty time as a melee broke out late in the game, including multiple scuffles, bringing an early end to the 3-1 contest.
Authorities issued penalties totaling 247 minutes for 44 violations. By the end they had had enough and called the game with 11 ticks left.
Arizona State University sophomore Tucker Ness (Plymouth, Minn.) charges from the penalty box, but immediately drops his gloves and appears to fight with University of Alaska Fairbanks graduate student Dawson Bruneski (Camrose, Alberta). It's shown in the video.
More than a dozen players received significant penalties and misconduct penalties, including several cases of match misconduct and disqualification.
Bruneschi had previously been penalized for assault, but he left the bench during the match and was disqualified. In addition to a roughing penalty early in the third period, Ness received a 10-minute brawl, a bench ejection during the brawl, and a disqualification from the game for misconduct.
