Hey everyone! Do you sit down and think about what you will do with your “retired” self? Want a little more excitement?Well, I always have something new and fresh in the pipeline.
Tiffany Burgess, Adult 50+ Program Supervisorat Bulloch County Recreation & Parks. We have started a new program to share: Adult chair volleyball 50 or more members.they play Held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the Honey Bowen Building in Statesboro.
Burgess contacted me and I was grateful and excited to go to the 2nd chair volleyball match at the center and find out what FUSS is all about.
What is chair volleyball?
This “fun” activity is great for upper body strength, mobility, and joint flexibility. Enhances muscle tone, reflexes, hand-eye coordination, and endurance.
The game is played using a beach ball and a 3-foot-tall net, and the rules are similar to regular volleyball.
Burgess said, “We wanted to add some 'competitiveness' to our program, and what could be more fun than volleyball?” We wanted adults over 50 to play safely, so we used a beach ball instead of a volleyball and chose “chair volleyball.” The first play was a huge hit. They're already talking about uniforms and team names.”
The chair volleyball professionals have now decided on the names “Baywatch Babes'' and “Go Getters.'' After a recent match (2-20 minute sets), the Baywatch Babes jumped out to a commanding lead of 20-18 against the Go-Getters. I love it! ! ! !
molly garside (Baywatch Babes) is quoted as saying: So I went home and did some research. Not only was she not kidding, she learned that chair volleyball was gaining momentum across all age groups. Seriously, it's so much fun! You don't even realize you're exercising! ”
Did you know that
Regular exercise helps older adults maintain independence and prevent many age-related health problems. According to the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, older adults should engage in two types of physical activity each week to improve their health: aerobic exercise and muscle strengthening.
Bulloch Rec is well known for its variety of activities including line dancing, chair yoga, sitfit, silver liner, scrabble, bingo, field trips, and art classes.
