Middletown, CT – Led by a sophomore forward. Jack Marottolo The 26 Wesleyan men's ice hockey team lost 4-1 to Bowdoin College on a power play goal Friday night in NESCAC action at Spurrier Snyder Arena.
The Bears (13-4-4 overall, 9-2-4 NESCAC) started the game with a shorthanded goal by Matty Weal against the Cardinals (5-15-1 overall, 3-3). They took an early lead in the game in just under five minutes. -11-1 NESCAC) got a power play because he was called for a hooking minor. The Bears entered the second period with a one-point lead.
Less than 11 minutes into the second period, Richard Davis' shot from the blue line went backwards and nearly gave the Bears a two-goal lead. Eric Voloshin 24 years later, I have crossed the line. The Cardinals responded at 8:08, with Marottolo scoring on the man advantage for the Cardinals' third goal of the season. The Bears were called on board; daniel lurie '26 stole the ball at the top of the unit and slid the puck down to the goal line, setting up Marottolo's goal. Lurie hit Alex Kosic with the first shot, but Kosic made the save, and Marottolo picked up the rebound from outside center and smashed the puck over the line to tie the game at one point.
Wheel's goal at 14:36 of the third period gave the Bears a one-point lead, but as Voloshin was replaced by an extra attacker, Jesse Lycan scored his first empty-net goal, then Luke Wheeler hit a short-handed empty-net goal. I scored a goal. The final moments of the match.
