LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln woman turned herself in two days after a hit-and-run crash that killed a 22-year-old man.
The Lincoln Police Department announced that 22-year-old Cindy Martinez turned herself in to the Lancaster County Jail and was arrested for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
Just after 8:20 p.m. on May 14, Lincoln Police were called to the area of North 37th Street and Cornhusker Highway for a person lying unconscious in the road.
LPD said a passerby spotted the man, later identified as Alejandro Murillo of Lincoln, and called the police. Paramedics performed life-saving measures at the scene and Murillo was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
LPD said investigators interviewed people with knowledge of the incident and reviewed evidence. An investigation determined that Murillo was struck by a car driven by her child's mother, Martinez, and that her actions at the wheel led to Murillo's death.
Investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency number at 402-441-6000. If you wish to remain anonymous, please call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
