Two women filed a lawsuit against kicker Brandon McManus and the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday night, alleging that McManus sexually assaulted them on a team flight, ESPN reported.
The women, identified in the lawsuit as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, filed the complaint in Duval County Circuit Civil Court on Friday, alleging that McManus assaulted them while serving the team on an international flight to London. They also reportedly claim the Jaguars failed to supervise McManus or create a safe environment for staff on the flight.
“We are aware of the complaints and acknowledge their seriousness,” the Jaguars said in a statement Monday. “While we continue to investigate the matter, we must emphasize that we stand by our organization, built by people who represent our community and our game with the utmost integrity and class.”
According to ESPN, the women are seeking more than $1 million in damages and have requested a jury trial.
“To be clear, these are completely false and demonstrably false allegations made as part of a campaign to tarnish and disparage a talented and respected NFL player,” Brett R. Gallaway of McLaughlin & Stern Litigation said on behalf of McManus. “We intend to vigorously defend Brandon's rights and integrity and restore his reputation by showing these allegations for what they truly are: an extortion attempt.”
As of 4 p.m. ET Monday, no online records for the case were available on the Duval County Circuit Civil Court website.
Jacksonville did not re-sign McManus this offseason, and he signed a one-year, $3.6 million contract with the Washington Commanders in March.
A Commanders spokesman said the team learned of the lawsuit early Monday.
“We take these allegations very seriously and are investigating,” the spokesman said in a statement. Athletic“We have been in contact with league office and Brandon's representatives and will not be making any further comment at this time.”
A message left with McManus' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was not immediately returned.
Jacksonville played back-to-back games in London during the 2023 season. The team hosted the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium on October 1 and played the Buffalo Bills at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 8.
According to an ESPN report, the two women were working as flight attendants on the Jaguars' charter flight on Sept. 28, 2023, and allege that McManus handed out $100 bills to flight attendants to encourage them to drink alcohol and dance.
Jane Doe 1 alleged that McManus tried to kiss her while she was in her seat during turbulence and that he rubbed against her twice while serving her a meal. Jane Doe 2 alleged in her lawsuit that McManus rubbed against her while serving her a meal for the second time on the flight. Jane Doe 2 stayed on the second floor of the plane to avoid McManus during the team's flight from London to Jacksonville on October 8, ESPN reported.
McManus, 32, was released by the Denver Broncos after nine seasons there and spent one season with the Jaguars. He made 30 of 37 field goals and 10 of 35 extra points last season.
