The New York Giants unveiled alternate uniforms Thursday to commemorate their 100th season. However, the throwback “Century Red” uniforms were widely unpopular on social media.
The uniforms, which will be worn for two games this season, feature red and blue jerseys, tan pants and winged helmets that feature the same red and blue color scheme. “I like the fact that we're continuing the tradition,” outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeau said in the team's news release announcing the uniforms.
Linebacker Bobby Okereke said he saw the uniform for the first time (and tried it on) and thought it looked “gritty and vintage.”
“It's a throwback to the 1920s, 1930s when they were coming out and just getting dirty,” he said. “This is a testament to all the players that came before us. They paved the way for us to play this great game.”
However, fans on social media did not share the same excitement about the uniform, with comments such as “I want this… but the pants are ruining it” and “This is no good” on pictures of the uniform. expressed support. miss “
