EXTON, Pa. (CBS) — Exton Square Mall's Spring Carnival is canceled after the carnival company's permit was revoked following major crowd control issues Saturday night, West White said. The Rand Police Department announced Sunday.
Police said the decision to revoke the permit and permanently close the carnival at the mall was made as a safety measure for participants.
Police initially canceled a Chester County carnival Saturday night after a group of youths created what authorities said was a “dangerous environment” for attendees at the venue. Additional personnel from government agencies across the county were also called in to assist with crowd control.
Police did not say specifically what happened, but said a large crowd had gathered on the grounds outside Exton Square Mall, causing a disturbance.
On Saturday evening, carnival company Good Time Amusements announced in a Facebook post that the Exton carnival had been closed “indefinitely” due to “out-of-control behavior and disturbances that occurred.”
West Whiteland Township Police are asking anyone with video from Saturday's carnival to submit it through the tip line to assist in the investigation.
Police are also investigating a fight that broke out inside the mall after Carnival closed. The ministry has released surveillance footage taken by a shopping mall vendor and is asking for the public's help in identifying those involved.
The video shows the long-haired person being punched and kicked multiple times in the presence of several witnesses. Anyone with information regarding this assault is asked to submit information online or contact Sergeant McCloskey at jmccloskey@westwhiteland.org.
Exton Square Spring Carnival was previously scheduled to run from May 9th to May 18th.
Police said information about ticket refunds should be passed on to carnival staff.
