ITHACA, N.Y. โ The No. 6 ranked Cornell University women's ice hockey team defeated Rensselaer 1-0 in overtime Friday night at Lina Rink. The Big Red improved to her 19-6-1, while the Engineers fell to his 13-15-3.
Lily Delianedis He scored the Big Red goal in overtime. Karel Prefontaine and Rory Gilday Assisted Cornell University's winning goal. Anneliese Bergman He made 19 saves and recorded his third shutout of the season.
The match was a defensive battle from start to finish. The Big Red's penalty kill was strong, and the team was able to stop the Six Engineers' power play. Cornell managed just one successful power play of their own, but it was to no avail.
With time running down in the third period, Cornell skated hard and aggressively in the RPI zone, racking up eight shots in the final five minutes. However, RPI maintained their solid defense and did not allow any of their shots to go into the back of the net, sending the game into overtime.
Rensselaer stole the puck two minutes into overtime and raced with a 1-on-1 breakaway chance, but NCAA points leader Rensselaer Izzy Daniel She chased an RPI skater and swiped the puck before taking a shot, saving the game.
Thirty seconds later, Gilday made a wish on the ice and swung the puck to Prefontaine, who slipped it to a wide-open Delianedis, who found the net to give Cornell the victory.
Bergman earned his second straight shutout and third of the season, collecting 19 saves and improving his record to 15-5-1.
