The girlfriend of a suburban Bridgeview man was arrested on suspicion of plotting to kill her co-worker and her boyfriend, authorities said.
Agnieszka Ryzewski, 33, has been charged with solicitation of murder in connection with the death of her boyfriend, Arturo Cantu, a Bridgeview Village spokesperson said.
Cantu, 39, was shot twice as he left his apartment in the 7300 block of West 79th Street around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Cantu's parents were in a Cook County courtroom Saturday as the man who allegedly shot and killed their son appeared for a bond hearing.
Anthony Calderon, 20, of Bedford Park, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. In court documents Saturday, prosecutors laid out the timeline of the murders and Mr. Calderon's apparent motive, alleging that Mr. Calderon had been having an affair with Mr. Cantu's girlfriend.
Prosecutors said Cantu was loading items into his car before going to work when he was confronted by the suspected gunman, who was wearing a blue surgical mask. Authorities said Cantu tried to defend himself with a pocket knife but was shot multiple times.
The suspect, later identified as Calderon, was seen on surveillance footage entering and leaving the scene in a red vehicle, authorities said.
Investigators found the vehicle the next day at a nearby McDonald's, where prosecutors said he worked with the victim's girlfriend.
Prosecutors said evidence led investigators to Calderon's home, where he was arrested Friday.
Police said the man confessed to the killing and led officers to the location of the weapon.
Cantu's family previously told NBC Chicago that he was a hard-working man and father of two who would do anything to help others. When his parents heard the story, they left the courtroom stunned. Before the hearing, all they said was justice for their son.
Mr. Calderon has been denied pretrial release and is scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday. Ryzewski's first hearing is scheduled for Sunday morning.
