To commemorate the NFL's 100th season, the New York Giants will introduce a “Century Red” throwback uniform.
A team statement said the uniforms could be worn twice in 2024, but there was no indication in which games they could be worn.
A statement from the Giants explained the inspiration behind the uniforms:
The uniforms are reminiscent of the franchise's early days and feature tan pants. Red socks with blue and white stripes from the team's first season in 1925. His 1933 red jersey with blue accents, in which the Giants played in his first-ever NFL Championship Game. and the iconic winged helmet that honors the Giants' 1938 championship, the cornerstone of the league's founding. All of his 2024 uniforms will feature the team's “100 Seasons” patch.
The red jersey's roots date back to 1933, when the Giants faced the Chicago Bears in the first NFL Championship Game. These tan pants were worn during his 1925 season, when the Giants joined him in the NFL for the first time. The winged helmet was worn by the Giants from 1937 to 1947. The uniform patch is in the shape of the Polo Grounds, the team's first home base in 1925.
After seeing (and trying on) the uniform for the first time, linebacker Bobby Okereke said, “It has a gritty, vintage feel.” “It's a throwback to the 1920s, 1930s when they were just getting dirty. It's a testament to all the guys who played before. They paved the way for us to play this great game. It opened me up.”
