BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart announced Tuesday layoffs affecting hundreds of jobs at the retail giant's campus offices.
The company also said it will need to relocate most remote workers and employees from its offices in Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto to its headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. Hoboken, New Jersey. and the San Francisco Bay Area.
The news was communicated through a Walmart staff memo provided to The Associated Press, which said the move would fulfill the goal of “bringing more people together more often.” The memo similarly states that by being together in person, “we can become better, collaborate, innovate and go even faster.”
The memo did not give a reason for the layoffs, other than to say “changes have been made to some of our operations that will result in job losses.”
A Walmart spokesperson did not immediately respond to questions about the reasons for the layoffs or why Walmart is consolidating other office positions in Arkansas, New Jersey and California.
