The Oregon Community Swim Club just began its long course season after a short course season that brought many highlights for both individual swimmers and team accomplishments.
The swimmers are primarily from Oregon communities, but also include swimmers from Fitchburg, Verona, Stoughton, Madison, and more.
This past season, the team set several individual and relay club records, as well as new meet records. The swimmers had success at the state meet and the International Swimming Coaches Association East Elite Showcase meet in Florida. Both the 10 and under and 11-14 age groups produced various medals and several state championships, as well as his first place gold medal in ISCA swimming.
New individual club records were set by Miles Grotenhaus (under-8 200 IM) and Beckem McAteer (under-8 50 back, 25 free, 25 back).
The teamwork of Wells Jenkins, Grotenhaus, Lars Biermann, Caleb Garrison, Beckem McAteer and Sam Plumb set club records for both the 8-and-under 100 boys free relay and 100 medley relay this season, respectively. Broken multiple times.
New meet record for the 9-10 boys 200 free relay by Logan Tereba, Lucas Jasperson, Santiago Tibbits-Villa and Will Burling.
OCSC swimmers 10 and under earn podium spots at state championships
• Boys 8 & Under 100 Medley Relay 3rd place (Wells, Miles, Lars, Caleb)
• Boys 8 & Under 100 Free Relay 3rd place (Lars, Wells, Caleb, Miles)
• Girls 10 & Under 200 Free Relay 3rd Place (Daphne, Jaycee, Nora Hanson, Reese)
9-10 individual female students
• Reece Kavanaugh finished on the podium in every event: 4th in 50 back, 6th in 100 back, 8th in 100 free, 3rd in 50 fly, 6th in 100 fly and 4th in 50 free.
• Jaycee Huber: 7th out of 100 backs (tied with other OCSC teammates)
• Daphne Grotenhaus: State champion in 50 free and tied for seventh in 100 back.
11-14 OCSC Swimmer National Success
11-12 Girls: Baya Burke: 5th 00 back, 4th 50 fly, 2nd 50 back, 2nd 100 back, 3rd 100 IM
11-12 Boys: Theo Schneider: State champion in 50 back, 3rd in 100 back, 3rd in 100 IM, 3rd in 200 IM, 5th in 200 breast.
13-14 Boys: Gavin McDaniel, state champion in 100 free, 50 free and 100 IM.
ISCA East Elite Showcase
OCSC swimmers competed in the ISCA East Elite Showcase held April 2-6 in St. Petersburg, Florida. OCSC representatives were Lydia Burling, Baya Burke, Theo Figueroa, Daphne Grotenhaus, Reese Kavanaugh, Beckem McAteer, Theo Schneider, and Jake Sziget.
Daphne Grotenhuis not only placed eighth in the women's 10 and under 50 fly, but also won the under 50 free.
Out of hundreds of qualifiers from across the country, McAteer placed eighth in the men's 10 and under 50 free. Kavanaugh finished in the 50 back (10th place), 100 back (8th place) and 50 free (5th place) in the girls 10 and under category.
The OCSC Tigersharks are led by coaches AJ Lerner and Jeff Bridwell and practice at a community pool in Oregon. This year, OCSC donated funds from the swim marathon to refinish and secure blocks at the Oregon Community Pool.
The Oregon Community Swim Club is also the host of the annual Oregon Kids Triathlon, which will host its 18th annual event this summer on August 17th.
