LARAMIE — Wyoming has lost more than a dozen players to the transfer portal so far this offseason.
dylan warrickThe 6-foot-5, 180-pound forward-position freshman was the latest player to enter free agency and announced his decision on social media Thursday night.
“First, I would like to thank the University of Wyoming and the entire coaching staff for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play the sport I love,” the Edmond, Okla., piece reads on X (formerly Twitter). “Due to Coach Linder's recent resignation, I will apply for termination with the NLI and resume recruiting.”
The first wave of transfers came shortly after a one-shot showing in the Mountain West Tournament.
6 people including potentially becoming the face of the franchise Cam Manyau and keel combannounced his intention to leave Laramie. Brendan Wenzel, the transfer of graduates was also decided by bolts. That's why I did it caden powell, Jacob Theodosiou and Jonas Siltautas.
For the second consecutive off-season, Jeff Linder An almost complete rebuild was imposed. It seemed to be going well.
University of Wyoming's fourth-year head coach scratched guard. Obi Agbim, Tyree Iheanacho and matja belić. Later, he also added his two big men from the portal. Hiroto Yamauchi Williams and Taiko Touko.
Four new students have also enrolled. That list included security guards. Oliver Faubert, Dominic Pagonis and jevion starwoodalong with Warrick in the front court.
Hey, things have changed.
On May 9, news broke that Linder was leaving the company to become a top assistant. grant mccasland Texas Tech University staff. The two previously worked together once at West Texas and coached at Midland College from 2006 to 2008.
Linder ended his tenure in High Plains with an overall record of 63-59. He led the Cowboys to an at-large berth in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, but they lost to Indiana in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio.
With Linder's departure, another mad dash to the portal began.
Agbim hit a brick. The same was true for Iheanacho and Williams Yamauchi. Faubert and Pagonis also plan to play elsewhere. Well, so does Warrick, who was ranked the second-best recruit in the state of Oklahoma by 247sports.com. He led his Edmond North High School to back-to-back state championships, averaging over 20 points as a sophomore and 15.1 points as a junior.
Davidson, San Jose State, South Alabama and Abilene Christian all offered three-star prospects. Wyoming signed the contract last November.
“We can't wait to add Dylan Warwick to the Cowboy family,” Linder said in a prepared statement on National Signing Day, adding, “Dylan had an outstanding career as an underclassman in high school basketball in Oklahoma.” He has been on our radar for a while now, having won multiple state championships at Oklahoma's top-ranked Edmond North High School, and his will to win and ability to influence wins is special. I knew there were two characteristics that I couldn't ignore.
“We loved his ability to improve not only himself, but his teammates and the program as well.Dylan also had great success on the Nike EYBL circuit with Team Griffin, and was able to play games in and out at an elite level. He is a combination of toughness and skill in the post, has a relentless mindset for rebounding, and can defend multiple positions and bring versatility to that end of the floor. Look for Laramie to win.”
Or so we thought.
