World Swimming appoints Stabilization Committee for Tunisian Swimming Federation
World Aquatics announced on Thursday that it has appointed a stabilization committee to lead the Tunisian Swimming Federation.
The World Aquatics Executive Committee met on Tuesday to discuss how to support the Federation of Tunisienne Natacion (FTN) after its board was dissolved by the president. Mohamed Zuribi Serves as the chairperson of the committee; maha zaoui are listed as contact information.
From the statement:
“The Stabilization Committee will carry out all day-to-day operations of the Tunisian Swimming Federation, make appropriate and necessary amendments to the constitution of the national federation, and organize and hold new elections within six months.”
“The Stability Committee, which works in the best interest of all Tunisian athletes, will ensure that the Tunisian Swimming Federation adheres to the highest standards of good governance and transparency.”
The FTN board was dissolved, along with the board of the Tunisian anti-doping agency ANAD, and some of its leaders were jailed last week. Tunisia's president was furious that he was unable to fly the Tunisian flag at a swimming competition in Tunis after the World Anti-Doping Agency deemed the country non-compliant in implementing regulatory amendments from 2021. If officials complied with WADA's instructions, they were fired and jailed.
WADA has since removed ANAD from its non-compliance list, a move that predates the swim meet that escalated the controversy.
