The Indian men's cricket team has appointed a new head coach, with current coach Rahul Dravid informing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he wants to step down after the T20 World Cup ends in June. We are ready to welcome you. According to reports, Dravid informed the BCCI executives about his decision ahead of the IPL season.
The BCCI on Monday formally invited applications for the position and set the deadline as May 27. BCCI chief Jay Shah also stressed that if Dravid wants an extension, he will “need to reapply”.
Dravid, who was appointed as India's head coach in 2021, led the team to ICC Men's ODI World Cup runners-up status. Following this announcement, several senior players within the team asked him to consider joining the Test team for at least a year. But he refused.
Who will be the next coach of the men's cricket team?
According to reports, National Cricket Academy head coach VVS Laxman is also not interested in taking up the role.
Meanwhile, there are also speculations that the BCCI is considering Stephen Fleming, the successful coach of Chennai Super Kings, as a possible replacement for Rahul Dravid for the head coaching position of the Indian cricket team.
The Indian Express reported that BCCI is interested in Fleming, citing his managerial skills and achievements. However, CSK's CEO denied any such meeting, saying he had had no contact with Fleming regarding this matter.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Sports Now: “I have not heard anything of the sort. There has been no communication from Stephen Fleming to CSK.”
