Family and friends voiced their concerns for Worcestershire's talented spinner after he failed to turn up for the start of the team's third game against Somerset.
After unsuccessful attempts to contact him, a friend called his apartment and found the English spinner dead.

Who is Josh Baker?
Josh Baker is a 20-year-old English spin bowler who played for county club Worcestershire.
Baker was born on 16 May 2003 and grew up in Redditch, Worcestershire, where he developed his love of cricket.

Baker began his cricketing journey at New Road, where his talent was noticed early on.
The 20-year-old eventually represented England at Under-19 level, while also signing his first professional contract with Worcestershire County Cricket Club in 2021 at the young age of 17.
From there, Baker continued to impress and signed a new three-year contract with the club in 2022.
Baker played a key role in both red and white ball and is credited with helping Worcestershire gain promotion from Championship Division Two.

Based on current statistics, Baker had a great career ahead of him and was likely to be called up to the England squad sooner rather than later.
Baker took 43 wickets in 22 first-class matches and 27 wickets in 25 white-ball appearances.

Although only 20, Baker made his mark with two half-centuries, including a career-best 75 points against Gloucestershire in July 2023.

Speaking out about Baker's untimely death, club chief executive Ashley Giles said they were “all devastated” by Baker's death.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also expressed his sadness on social media and paid tribute to Baker.
“Very sad. My thoughts go to all of my family and close friends,” Vaughan wrote.
The England and Wales Cricket Board also expressed their condolences to Baker's family and friends.
“The ECB is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Josh Baker,” the statement read.
“This is devastating news. We send our best wishes to Josh's family and friends, everyone who knew and loved him and everyone at Worcestershire CCC.”
