The spring game season begins this Sunday.
Your reading is correct. It's not even March yet, but the Hawaii Warriors will be playing their spring game this Sunday. I started practicing at the end of January. After all, spring is related to where you live.
Spring in Clemson, South Carolina may be a little late on the calendar, but it's not that far away. Clemson football begins spring practice on Wednesday, February 28th. There will be 15 practice sessions available between then and the culmination of spring training, the Orange and White Spring Game on Saturday, April 6th. It is free and open to the public.
There isn't much information yet on players' availability, but head coach Dabo Swinney will provide an update on players who will not play or who will be limited early next week.
Clemson will have two new position coaches this season. Matt Luke will take over the offensive line and Chris Rumph will return to the staff to take over the defensive ends. Both coaches have a difficult task ahead of them. Luke will be responsible for revamping an offensive line that has been a flaw at times over the past three seasons. Rumph will replace both starting ends starting in 2023.
This will be Garrett Riley's second season with the program, and the expectation is that he will be able to implement and run more of the offense he ran at both SMU and TCU in recent years.
Quarterback Cade Klubnik is entering his junior season as a second-year starter at quarterback. He will return both Antonio Williams and Tyler Brown at wide receiver, as well as some talented freshmen.
Most importantly, running back Phil Mafa returns for his senior season and is poised for a breakout year as the Tigers' feature back.
Another position fans will want to keep an eye on is kicker, where freshman Nolan Hauser will take over kicking duties.
