The three-day Kansas High School Activities Association Swimming and Diving State Championships begin Thursday and conclude Saturday. The Class 6A and Class 5-1A state championships will be held at the Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center in Lenexa.

Audrey Upoon, Washburn Region
The sophomore shined for the Junior Blues, winning the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle at the city championships earlier this month. Upoon also won the 200-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle at last week's Centennial League Championships.
Upoon will qualify for the state championship with the fourth time in Class 6A in the 500-yard freestyle. She also holds the 10th best time in the 200-yard IM.
Rhiannon Good, Washburn Rural
The diver ranks fifth in Class 6A in the 11 dive category with a score of 399.80, a score he posted for third place at last week's Centennial League Championships. Good also holds the eighth-best score in a six-dive event.

Jocelyn Grace, Seaman
The junior is one of the best 200-yard IM swimmers in Class 5-1A. Grace won the United Kansas Conference Championship in this event, finishing fifth in her class with a time of 2:12.83. Grace also ranks him 10th in Class 5-1A in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.94.
Kayleigh Gregg, Hayden
The junior finished second at last week's Centennial League Championships with a score of 433.50, making him the Topeka area's best diver. This is her best finish of the season and second-best in Class 5-1A in 11 diving events.

Avery Waltz, Sailor
The senior is ready to succeed in the final game of his illustrious career. Walz won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle at last week's United Kansas Conference Championships.
Walz is the fastest 50-yard freestyle player in Class 5-1A. He holds the second-fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle as a senior and also ranks third in the 200-yard IM. Finally, Walz earned her fifth place in the class in the 100 yard breaststroke as well.
Tauren Waltz, Sailor
Walz is one of the best athletes in Class 5-1A in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly. She won both events at last week's United Kansas Conference Championships and placed third in both events as a senior. She is less than a second off her best time going into the state championships.

4:30 p.m. – Class 6A diving preliminaries and semifinals.

4:00 PM – Class 6A Swimming Preliminaries
Saturday, May 18th
9:00 a.m. – Class 5-1A Swimming and Diving Finals
4:00 p.m. – Class 6A swimming and diving finals.
