PULLMAN โ Washington State spent much of last fall completing its 2024 football schedule, sifting through the wreckage of the Pac-12 to find opponents and finalize dates.
As of Thursday afternoon, the mission was complete.
WSU's 2024 schedule consists of six home games and six away games, starting with the home opener against FCS Portland State on August 31st, and the Cougars are one of six Mountain West teams with two wins. The season ends with the final home game on Nov. 30 against Wyoming State. Annual schedule agreement.
WSU will then announce in a release specifying game times and television programming, the latter as WSU President Kirk Schultz and Athletic Director Pat Chun consider the balance between revenue and exposure. This has become a big problem.
Washington State University will play a neutral nonconference game against rival University of Washington (later a member of the Big Ten) on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle. WSU's game against Oregon State, another Pac-12 remaining school, is scheduled for November 23rd in Corvallis, Oregon.
The Cougs are scheduled to play eight games against Mountain West opponents, two of which are prescheduled (San Jose State and San Diego State), and six of which are scheduled for the two-year grace period between WSU and OSU. This is done with the benefit of an agreement. It's being used to try to rebuild the Pac-12.
Chung announced in December that WSU would wear the Pac-12 logo on its jerseys and home field for all 12 games.
The Cougars' home matchup against Texas Tech, which marks the return of former wide receiver Josh Kelly and former offensive line coach Clay McGuire to Pullman, wasn't necessarily on the schedule. The Red Raiders were originally scheduled to visit Oregon State on September 7th, but the Big Ten bound Ducks declined in order to continue their rivalry series with Oregon State.
The WSU-UW game is also the first of five Apple Cup games and the first non-conference game, with both schools agreeing to an extension last fall. The 2025 game will be held at Gesa Field in Pullman, with the next three games rotating annually.
The Cougs have two bye weeks built into this schedule, one the week of September 30th and the other the week of October 28th.
