Giving fans of the Washington men's basketball team a reason to party on Friday nights, head coach Danny Sprinkle has secured two commitments from former Portland forward Tyler Harris and former Rhode Island guard Lewis Kortright. Ta.
The 6-foot-8, 190-pound Harris was a starter for Portland throughout the 2023-24 season, averaging 12.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and shooting 46 percent from the field in his West Coast Conference All-Freshman Team campaign. The rising sophomore shot 35.8% from behind the arc last season, and could be a much-needed shot from the wing.
Kortright, on the other hand, started 31 games for Rhode Island last season, nearly matching his 2022-23 season. He averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting 43.7% from the field. At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Kortright has the frame and experience to be a valuable defender in the Big Ten next season.
Neither player had much success as a team last season, with their respective programs finishing last in their conferences. He only has three scholarship spots left, but Harris and Kortright are certainly hopeful that the new coaching staff and roster can change that.
