The Washington Demons defeated the Ravens 3-1 on Saturday at Washington Wellness Park, ending Hillcrest Academy's undefeated boys soccer season. Washington scored two goals in five minutes in the first half against a Hillcrest team that had allowed just two goals all season.
Demon senior Lane Schrock curled a 25-yard shot in the wind to open the scoring in the 12th minute, and Bill Delarosa scored on a feed from fellow senior Angel Mata in the 17th minute. He extended his lead. It stayed that way by halftime, 2-0.
After a nearly scoreless second half, de la Rosa put the finishing touches on Washington's victory by converting senior Isaac Gentry's corner kick in the 76th minute for his second goal of the game.
Seth Ours would come on for the Ravens with an assist from fellow junior Mason Bender with 90 seconds left, but it wasn't enough for Hillcrest to maintain its 7-0 start to the season.
Instead, Washington won three straight games and improved to 7-2. The Demons are scheduled to return to action later today when they host Fairfield. The Ravens next play Highland later today in Kalona.
Two local soccer teams also suffered losses over the weekend. The Columbus/Winfield Mount Union girls dropped two games on Saturday, losing 2-0 to Pella Christian and losing 7-0 to Burlington Notre Dame.
The Wildcats fell to 1 win and 7 losses. The Sigourney Keota boys lost 9-0 to Pella Christian on Thursday. Ahead of tomorrow's next match against the West Branch, SK's record has dropped to 1 win and 7 losses.
