Walla Walla Swim Club (WWSC), an organization for boys and girls ages 6-18, had a very successful Fatherly’s Pizza Open held May 18th and 19th in Lewiston.
“It was our first long distance race of the season,” WWSC coach Erica Miller said in her post-race report, “and the weather was a bit unpredictable at times, but overall it was a really great weekend.”
“I couldn't be more proud of all they've achieved and it bodes well for the rest of the summer long-distance racing season.”
Next up for WWSC is a trip to the Tri-Cities Open in Pasco from May 31-June 2.
WWSC is looking to build on its strong showing in Lewiston.
Cora Asmus, 12, set many records in her first long distance swim, completing the 400m freestyle (6:13.54), 50m butterfly (40.93), 200m freestyle (2:59.62), 50m backstroke (43.39) and 50m freestyle (38.11). She also competed in the 12 and Under Girls 200m Freestyle Relay, placing 9th.
Eli Bona, 16, competed in the 400 individual medley (5:24.75), 100 breaststroke (1:31.18), 200 butterfly (2:33.49), 100 butterfly (1:06.72), 200 freestyle (2:11:14) and 100 backstroke (1:09.03), winning the 100 backstroke and taking second places in the 400 individual medley, 200 butterfly and 200 freestyle, adding 25 points to the team total.
Ocean Clark, 12, completed the 400m Individual Medley, shaving over 45 seconds off her time to set a new record of 7:51.17, and also set new personal records in the 50m breaststroke (51.65), 100m freestyle (1:32.99), 100m butterfly (1:49.59), 50m butterfly (43.97), 100m breaststroke (1:54.97), 50m backstroke (47.66), 50m freestyle (40.27), as well as setting a new personal best in the 400m freestyle (7:25.96) and placing ninth in the Girls 12 and Under Freestyle Relay.
Seven-year-old Layne Clark placed second in the butterfly and fourth in both the backstroke and freestyle, earning 11 individual points in the WWSC team all-around. She also competed in the girls' 200m freestyle relay, placing ninth, and swam debut times in the 50m butterfly (1:35.27), 50m backstroke (1:35.09) and 50m freestyle (1:19.37).
Leo Cole, 12, placed sixth in the 50 breaststroke, earning individual points towards the WWSC team total, and also swam firsts in the 100 backstroke (1:43.39), 50 breaststroke (48.13), 100 freestyle (1:27.02), 50 butterfly (49.80), 100 freestyle (3:21.15), 50 backstroke (47.58) and 50 freestyle (37.73).
Thirteen-year-old Kaylee DeBolt set first meter records in the 100 breaststroke (2:24.56) and 400 freestyle (7:14.07), set a personal best in the 200 freestyle (3:23.05), and completed the 100 freestyle (1:32.64), 100 butterfly (2:09.34), 100 backstroke (1:49.89) and 50 freestyle (42.40). She also competed in the girls 13 and over 200 freestyle medley relay and placed third in the 13 and over 200 freestyle relay, placing ninth in both events.
Thirteen-year-old Josephine Fitts shaved more than 16 seconds off her 100m freestyle time to set a new personal best (1:30.36), shaved more than 41 seconds off her 200m freestyle time (3:14.76), more than 19 seconds off her 100m backstroke time (1:53.70), and nearly five seconds off her 50m freestyle time (41.49), while also setting first-time records in the 100m butterfly (1:53.57) and 100m breaststroke (2:02.93). She also anchored the girls' 13+ 200m freestyle relay, finishing in ninth place.
Twelve-year-old Camden Hamada earned 25 individual points by placing in the top six in eight of ten events. He set personal bests in the 200 individual medley (3:09.18), 100 backstroke (1:29.54), 50 breaststroke (49.13), 50 butterfly (37.24), 200 freestyle (2:42.29), 100 breaststroke (1:41.72) and 50 backstroke (41.05). He also took second in the 800 freestyle in his first attempt with a time of 11:41.83.
Twelve-year-old Zach Maxwell earned seven individual points by finishing in the top six in two of the five events he competed in. He took second place in his first 400m freestyle (5:46.47) and set personal bests in the 50m butterfly (44.24), 100m breaststroke (1:43.27), 50m backstroke (41.97) and 50m freestyle (34.80).
Thirteen-year-old Siobhan Lyle set her first long-distance waterway records in the 100 breaststroke (2:05.20) and 800 freestyle (14:30.33), and also set new PRs in the 100 freestyle (1:30.90), 400 freestyle (6:58.73), 100 butterfly (2:01.76), near PRs in the 200 freestyle (3:21.86), 100 backstroke (1:49.09) and 50 freestyle (40.24), while also placing well in the backstroke in the girls' 200 medley relay and second in the girls' 13 and over 200 freestyle relay, placing ninth in both events.
Violet Schindler, 12, won all of her individual events, earning 70 points and the overall championship, setting personal bests and earning the highest points award in the process. She also set new personal bests in the 400 individual medley (5:52.04), 100 backstroke (1:27.27), 50 breaststroke (38.83), 100 freestyle (1:09.93), 100 butterfly (1:15.28), 200 freestyle (2:28.86) and 100 breaststroke (1:27.73), and near personal bests in the 50 butterfly (33.11), 50 backstroke (38.20) and 50 freestyle (32.08), and swam as the lead runner in the girls' 200 freestyle relay, finishing in ninth place.
Olivia Thayne, 14, set new personal bests in the 100 freestyle (1:26.31) and 50 freestyle (34.85), and also recorded first-time swims of one meter in the 100 breaststroke (1:46.43), 100 butterfly (1:38.55), 200 freestyle (2:55.90) and 100 backstroke (1:37.36). She also swam breaststroke in the Girls 13 and Over 200 Medley Relay and leadoff in the Girls 200 Freestyle Relay, placing ninth in both events.
Millie Zanes, 13, earned 16 individual points with top-six finishes in four races, placing second in the 200 butterfly and third in the 800 freestyle. She also set personal bests in the 100 breaststroke (1:45.09), shaved over 17 seconds off her 100 butterfly time in the 200 butterfly (3:20.69) and over 18 seconds off her 400 freestyle (5:55.58). She also set personal bests in the 200 freestyle (2:50.17) and 50 freestyle (36.23) and completed the 800 freestyle for the first time (12:26.37).
