With a 2-0-1 record in their last three games, the Wakefield Warriors are enjoying a strong start to the boys high school soccer season.
After losing 3-1 to Lewis in the opener, Wakefield bounced back with wins over Jefferson 3-0, Justice 3-2, and a 2-2 tie with Alexandria City.
The most recent contest was against Justice in nondistrict litigation.
After falling behind 1-0 at halftime, Wakefield came back to win.
The Warriors came back to life and started the second half with three goals in eight minutes. Wakefield failed once defensively, but Justice was able to score a second time.
Goals for Wakefield were scored by Jacob Peel, Luke Kelly and Addis Iskinder Sarr. Gracen Kolglazie and Tate Kolejwo had assists.
Wakefield did not play during spring break, but has two non-district games scheduled in the next few days, against Chantilly and South County.
• In other boys high school soccer news, Washington vs. Liberty Generals starts the season 3-0.
Non-district wins included a 2-1 win over Annandale and Centerville, and a 3-0 win over Jefferson.
The Generals had no games scheduled during spring break, but have two non-district games scheduled in the next few days.
Washington vs. Liberty vs. Wakefield is scheduled to play April 26 in Wakefield at All-Arlington in the Liberty District. The team is coached by brothers Jimmy Carrasquillo of WL and Eddie Carrasquillo of Wakefield.
