Harrisonburg, Virginia โ James Madison volleyball head coach, looking to make a second consecutive appearance in the Division I girls volleyball championship. Lauren Steinbrecher The Dukes released their 2024 roster on Friday afternoon.
“As we continue to strive for new heights, we must construct a schedule that gives us an opportunity for postseason play and prepares us for the competitive Sun Belt League,” Steinbrecher said. “This schedule certainly accomplishes that goal, as six of the 10 non-conference games are against teams that played in last season's NCAA Tournament, including two teams that advanced to the Sweet 16. We are excited for the challenge and look forward to playing in front of our fans at the beautiful Convocation Center in 2024. GO DUKES!”
A tough non-conference slate will be highlighted by games against 2023 Sweet 16 competitors Kentucky (Sept. 7) and Penn State (Sept. 20), as well as 14 home games at the Convocation Center. A rematch with Coastal Carolina for the 2023 Sun Belt Conference title (Oct. 18-19) will headline home conference play, giving the Dukes a total of 10 games against teams who competed in the 2023 Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.
The season will kick off with a scrimmage against the University of Virginia on Aug. 24 in Charlottesville before the Dukes host the JMU Purple Invitational (Aug. 30-Sept. 1), which includes a trip to the Valley to host Delaware State, Stony Brook and Presbyterian College for the season opener. JMU will then travel to Lexington, Kentucky to take on Ball State (Sept. 6) and Kentucky (Sept. 7).
Following their trip to Kentucky, the Dukes will host the JMU Gold Invitational, which will feature 2023 conference champions Western Michigan (MAC) and High Point (Big South) on a trip to Harrisonburg. JMU will close out non-conference play with a trip to Happy Valley, Pa., to take on Penn State (Sept. 20) and Yale (Sept. 21).
For conference play, the Dukes will host four teams at the Convocation Center: Appalachian State University (Sept. 26-27), Coastal Carolina University (Oct. 18-19) in a Sun Belt title rematch, the University of South Alabama (Nov. 1-2) and Old Dominion University (Nov. 7-8).
JMU will visit Georgia State (Oct. 4-5), Marshall University (Oct. 11-12) and Georgia Southern (Oct. 25-26) before concluding the regular season at Texas State (Nov. 14-15).
The 2024 Sun Belt Championship will be held Nov. 20-24 in Foley, Alabama.
