After developing a friendly on-field rivalry with Delhi Capitals star and childhood friend Ishant Sharma in both innings during the IPL 2024 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore great Virat Kohli joked with teammate Mohammed Siraj in the dressing room. After RCB won by 47 runs against DC.
In a video posted by RCB on its social media pages, Siraj is seen talking about the win against Delhi which boosted RCB's chances of making it to the playoffs. At one stage in the competition, RCB were standing at the bottom of the points table with their only win in seven matches, but a record five consecutive wins saw them rise to fifth place in the points table.
Siraj was overjoyed with the “brand of cricket” RCB had been playing in recent weeks, rather than his team's hopes of qualifying. However, the way he gave his explanation in the locker room interview left Kohli in a divisive state, as he relentlessly abused his teammates. Here's how the conversation went:
sillage: What a comeback! We just wanted to take it one game at a time. Qualifications and playoffs are out of our control. What we can control is that the fast bowler has the ball and the batsman has the bat. All we have to do is attack. If you're qualified, that's great. But we just want to keep playing this brand of cricket.
Kohli: (Laughs) He says batters have bats and bowlers have bowls.
sillage: The idea is to take the wicket.
Kohli:(lol) Arag cricket chal rahi hai. Say, “All I see is a stump.”
sillage:Shiu
Kohli: (laughs) I'm saying let's meet again.
RCB are currently in 5th place with 12 points from 13 games. They will play their final match against defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 18 for a chance to move up to 14 points. A win would certainly give them a chance to qualify for the play-offs, but that depends on other factors as both LSG and SRH have a chance of finishing the league stage with 16 points.
