VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have signed goaltender Arturs Sirovs to a two-year contract, the NHL club announced Tuesday.
The Canucks did not disclose financial terms of the deal.
Sirovs, 23, a native of Riga, Latvia, played in 10 playoff games for the Canucks last season after starting goaltender Thatcher Demko was injured in Game 1 of Vancouver's first-round series against Nashville.
He went 5-5 with a 2.91 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage, but Vancouver lost in seven games to Edmonton in the second round.
The 6-foot-4, 203-pound goaltender recorded 3 wins, 0 losses and 1 draw with a 2.47 goals-against average and .881 save percentage during the regular season for Vancouver.
He appeared in 34 games with the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League, posting 16 wins, 11 losses and six draws with a 2.74 ERA and .907 save percentage.
Since being selected by the Canucks in the sixth round, 156th overall, in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Sirovs has compiled an NHL record of six wins, two losses and one draw with a 2.62 goals against average and an .898 save percentage.
“Arturs has continued to grow and develop as a goaltender over the last year and has been a great help to us at our request,” Canucks general manager Patrick Albin said in a statement. “We expect him to participate in training camp and compete for a full-time position with the big club. Our group will continue to work with him to hone his skills and provide him with all the tools he needs to take another step forward in his young career.”
