Vadodara police on Saturday arrested Tushar Allote, former coach of the Indian women's cricket team, for seizing cash worth Rs 100 crore from her home in the city's Pratapganj area.
In a press release on Sunday, the police's Special Operations Group (SOG) said Mr Allote “gave no satisfactory explanation” when asked about the cash. SOG searched Mr Allote's residence and found a “gray bag” containing a total of 1.01 billion rupees, the statement said.
SOG Inspector VS Patel said the cash was seized following a tip-off that “a bag containing cash was received at the apartment of Allote's son Rishi, who was earlier arrested on charges of cricket gambling and cheating.” “Two other accomplices named Vikrant Raipatwar and Amit Janit were also found in possession of cash worth Rs 38 million…On interrogation, Allote said the huge amount recovered from the residence “As they have not given a satisfactory reply regarding the cash, we have initiated proceedings against Allote. Mr. Raipatwal and Mr. Janit under section 102 (power of seizure of property) of the CrPC,” Patel said.
In April 2019, the Vadodara Crime Branch also arrested 19 people, including Allote from a local cafe in the city, for allegedly gambling during an IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab. All defendants were granted bail by the court.
Allote, a former first-class cricketer for Baroda, was the head coach of the Indian women's team when they reached the World Cup final in 2017 and has been given a two-year contract extension. However, her tenure ended prematurely when she resigned in July 2018 following reports of discord within her team and the team's loss to Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final. He was also part of his staff coaching the team from 2008 until 2012.
