Mikel Rangsit, a junior member of the Upper Moreland High School girls basketball team, and her father, Rashim, philadelphia inquirer Today because of the long-term bond they share with basketball.
Rasim is currently the girls' basketball director at Academy of the New Church and has coached Mikel since he was in fourth grade. That's when he began holding local training sessions for girls in the Upper Moreland and Cheltenham school districts, according to the article.
This summer will be the duo's last hurray in AAU ball before Mikel begins his senior season.
“It's the last game for all of us,” Ransit said. He played high school basketball at Central High School, then Olney High School in the Philadelphia Public League, and then attended Temple University.
Now in his 23rd year as a coach, he helped out with Philadelphia's Police Athletic League and Germantown Academy's 8th grade and JV teams before taking on his current position in 2020-21. .
He also coached his son, Rashim, who graduated from Upper Moreland in 2022.
“He’s always there for me, even in the winter when I’m playing in high school,” Mikel said. “It's even more so in the summer. He kind of tells me what I'm thinking, so it's really great.”
