The University of Wyoming has identified the three swim team members killed in a single-vehicle crash in northern Colorado Thursday afternoon.
The university announced Friday that the players are freshman Carson Muir, 18, on the women's team, sophomore Charlie Clark, 19, and junior Luke Slav, 21, on the men's team. Muir is from Birmingham, Alabama. Clark from Las Vegas and Slab Bar from Cape Town, South Africa.
Two other members of the men's swimming and diving team were injured in the accident, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the university said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our swimming and diving student-athletes, coaches, families, and friends,” Wyoming Director of Athletics Tom Berman said in a statement. “Losing a University of Wyoming family is difficult, and we mourn the loss of our student-athletes.”
Berman said counseling services are available “to student-athletes and coaches when needed.”
The crash occurred on Route 287, about 16 miles south of the Wyoming-Colorado border.
The five-passenger Toyota RAV4 was traveling south on the left shoulder of the highway and rolled over multiple times, according to the USA TODAY Network's Coloradoan.
The crash site is near the site of a 2021 crash that killed three University of Wyoming students, the paper said.
