–The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Athletic Department announced the hiring of Jarrod Wixer as the next head coach of the Warhawk men's basketball team. Wixer served as interim coach last season.
A press conference is scheduled for Monday, April 29th at 3:45 p.m. in Williams Center Room 183BC.
“I would like to thank Treasurer King, Athletic Director Ryan Callahan and the search committee for trusting me and allowing me to lead the men's basketball program,” said Coach Wixer. “I am honored to be a part of the Warhawk family and look forward to working hard to build a rich tradition of success here at the University of Whitewater.”
“We are excited to have Jarrod lead our men's basketball program,” said Athletic Director Callahan. “Jarod has high praise for his character and his work ethic and ability as a teacher are never questioned.”
Before taking over as interim head coach a year ago, Wixer served as an assistant coach under longtime head coach Pat Miller for six seasons. Warhawk Men's Basketball His program has a long history of head coaches, and Wixer is his third to take over the role since 1978.
“Since 1978, we have been fortunate to have two of America's most decorated coaches, Dave “Aussie” Vander Meulen and Pat Miller, bring integrity and passion to the sport and the university. “Jarod is in a position to continue the legacy of Augie and Pat while building his own.”
Wichser is at the helm of a program with a long history of success at the conference and national levels. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship 15 times and the WIAC Tournament five times, which is his second-most in the league. His 22 NCAA appearances for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater are more than any other team in the conference, and his four NCAA Division III titles with the program are tied for the most in the WIAC. The Warhawks boast his 42-19 record in the NCAA Tournament.
“Thanks to the many elite student-athletes and coaches who have built this program, the standard of success for men's basketball at Wixer-Whitewater is extremely high,” Wixer added. “We will relentlessly seek to meet and maintain the standards of excellence they have established.”
“I'm excited for him and his family as he leads us into a new era of men's basketball,” Callahan concluded.
Wixer led UWW to a 17-9 overall record and a 7-7 WIAC record during the interim season.
Wixer graduated from the University of California, Whitewater in 2012. He earned a degree in elementary and secondary education and completed his master's program in professional development at UWW in 2018.
