He has been a pillar of the community, recruited great young men who represent our university greatly, and most importantly, The thing is, he's from Indiana, and this is a great opportunity for him to move back to his home state to be closer to his parents and relatives.”
Under Slessinger's guidance, the Privateers racked up 171 victories, the most in school history. His 13-year tenure in New Orleans is the longest in Privateer Athletics history.
Slessinger, a native of Bloomington, Indiana, led the Privateers to both the SLC regular season championship title and tournament title in 2017. This historic season earned him the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Coach of the Year award as well as the 2017 SLC Coach of the Year award. That same year, he won the NABC District 23 Coach of the Year Award.
