For the past few seasons, there hasn't been a more versatile player on the UCLA Bruins football team's roster than Carl Jones.
Originally planning to attend Colorado as a high school senior, the Southern California native ultimately committed to UCLA just before signing day. Initially a defensive back, Jones played literally all over the field during his career.
Jones originally started his career as a safety before moving down to play linebacker. He spent significant time at defensive end despite weighing around 220 pounds because he needed to help the pass rush.
Jones went undrafted, which wasn't a total surprise considering most NFL scouts consider him to be a bit of a fixer. But that didn't stop one NFL team from taking a strong interest in the Bakersfield, Calif., native.
Jones reportedly signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears. UCLA football team X official account. He will have a chance to join the team, either as a main member or as a member of the practice squad.
In five years with the Bruins, Jones recorded 23.0 TFL, 8.0 sacks and 135 total tackles.
This is a pretty strong production, mainly because it's a reserve. His speed was invaluable, especially in obvious passing situations on third down.
With the positional versatility he brings, you can imagine the Bears using him in a variety of ways. Jones could initially join the team as a special teams member from the jump. His aggressiveness combined with his athleticism and instinctive talent make Jones a top candidate to make a real impact.
