The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball program and head coach Nick Mesek announced the hiring of former Golden Eagle volleyball player Mara Weisenzel as an assistant coach.
Mezek coached Weisenzel as both an assistant coach and head coach.
As a junior in 2022, Weisenzel set career highs in several categories including kills, kills per set, total attacks and points, and started 28 games. Weisenzel also holds the record for most kills in a match by a middle blocker with 20 kills on 47 total attempts against the University of Mary.
During her career with the Golden Eagles, Weisenzel had over 500 kills, 632.5 points and 136 total blocks as a middle blocker. She also posted a .229 attack percentage with approximately 1,400 attempts.
“We could not be more grateful to have Mara Weisenzel on our coaching staff. The search process was extensive and we evaluated many qualified candidates,” Mesek said. “I am confident that she will contribute to the growth of our team with her knowledge, personality and strong work ethic.”
Mezek is also excited about the kind of person and culture builder Weisenzel is. “Mara is a great person who has led our team for the past four years and has already made a huge impact on our program. Mara's move into a coaching role is a great addition to the NSIC, our team and our athletic department. With her experience, it will be a natural transition. Our Golden Eagle family is excited to continue this journey!”
