Dear UAF Community
The UAF Volleyball Club Tournament ended successfully on Saturday, March 30th. We dreamed of it when we started returning to volleyball in the fall. Thanks to the great work of my fellow club executives and friends Marcelo Ketzler, Ellis Wood, Emma Pflugoft, Nou Alaelua and Lewis Martin, I was able to book the Patti Center two weeks in advance. I did. A huge thank you to Mr. Ryan Rahr, Assistant Director of Nanook Athletics, for giving us the green light and starting our relationship with Nanook Athletics. It was an intangible blessing that this tournament took place and we feel that we have made a difference in the lives of our club members. Bringing together a group of great people with a sense of belonging is a rare feat that only feels once or twice in a lifetime. The energy of the tournament was nail-biting as students and staff from across campus gathered in the Patti Center. With 48 participants and a large audience, the buzz of the Patti Center was filled with anxiety, excitement, and competitiveness. To ensure fair play, tournament leaders have decided on pool play and bracket play with randomly generated teams for maximum fun. It was a fun 6-hour tournament where participants set, spiked, served, and received the ball.
Message from club president Jacob:
I am truly honored to be the president of the UAF Volleyball Club. To be honest, he didn't want to be president. He just wanted to play the game the way it was. The club needed direction and guidance, so former president Lewis Martin appointed me and I became president. The rest is history from there. Thank you again to Nanook Athletics, Ryan Rahr, and the athletics department for the memories we made and the community we shared. We hope to see another volleyball event at SRC and perhaps at the Patti Center. If you would like to join the UAF Volleyball Club, please contact us. We play every Wednesday from 5-7pm and Saturday from 3-5pm.
Sincerely, Jacob Iyer (Club President) and Kevin Fo (Officer)
