A Maryland Lottery player tried his luck at another store and pulled a jackpot.
The Maryland Lottery said in a May 8 news release that the Caroline County man was running errands for the weekend and stopped at the Greensboro Tiger Mart to play two Pick 5 games.
He won the $50,000 prize in the noon drawing on May 4th.
“I usually buy all my games elsewhere and always at the register,” he told lottery officials. “But I went to the vending machine here.”
Lottery officials said the man, who runs a trucking company, called his wife immediately after checking his ticket because he “couldn't breathe.”
“I was sitting there looking at the numbers…” he recalled.
According to the Maryland Lottery website, the lucky player beat odds of 1 in 100,000 to win the $50,000 grand prize.
Officials said the man plans to spend most of his winnings on his trucking business, but also wants to take time off and help his family financially.
Greensboro is about a 60-mile drive east of downtown Annapolis.
