desmond valentine He has been named the head men's basketball coach at Tiffin University.
Valentin recently completed his second season with the Tiffin program for the 2023-24 season as associate head coach.
Valentin began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Incarnate Word. In addition to his responsibilities as assistant coach, Valentin will also take on player development, scouting breakdown and video breakdown duties.
Valentin played two seasons at the University of the Incarnate Word under Dr. Carson Cunningham, where he was named team captain two years in a row and helped lead the UIW Cardinals on and off the court. He was part of the only team in school history to make it to the postseason conference tournament (2020-2021). The team was also active in the community, setting a new program record with 300 hours of community service and being named among national leaders with a 3.37 GPA.
Valentin also played two years at Tyler Junior College under coach Mike Marquis, compiling a 50-11 record in those two years. During his time at TJC, he ranked third in scoring and first in assists, leading Tyler Junior College to the Region 14 Championship and a berth in the National Junior College Tournament in the 2018 season.
Ballentine graduated from Incarnate Word with a bachelor's degree in cultural studies and a master's degree in communication. Des and his wife Kirsten currently live in Tiffin.
