ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Southern California Indoor Volleyball Hall of Fame held its 6th, 7th and 8th annual Introductory Classes on Sunday in front of a packed audience at the Highway 39 Events Center in Anaheim.
This event was a true who's who of volleyball in Southern California, with Olympians, great coaches, and more in attendance.
A highlight was Alice Sanchez, 91, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for running club events for 50 years and being a champion of senior players.
Other lifetime honorees include former USC All-American setter Bill Stetson, who has served as the U.S. men's and women's team doctor for the past 25 years, and San Diego businessman Charlie Stetson, who has supported and worked for the sport from youth to national teams. Presented to Mr. Jackson. , including coaching.
2022 recipients include DaeLea Aldrich, Doug Dannevik, David Lee, Jim McLaughlin, Rick Olmstead, Don Shaw, Rosie Wegrich, and Elaine Youngs.
Honorees starting in 2023 include Cynthia Barboza-Wilkes, Albert Gasparyan, the late Ninja Jorgensen (her cousin Sven Andersson flew from Denmark to accept), Christine Klein Keefe, and Rich Lamborn, Miki McFadden, and the late Mary Perry (accepted by nephew Doug Perry). ).
The 2024 group of inductees included Michael Bohle, Linda Chisholm, Matt Fuerbringer, Adam Johnson, Walt Kerr, Nancy Owen Fortner, and Eric Sullivan. NBC Olympic commentator Randy Rosenbloom served as MC, and the tribute video was produced by NBC Olympic staff member Tom Feuer.
The Hall made a charitable donation to Stallings Volleyball in San Diego, USA, in memory of Lifetime Hall of Famer Byron Schuman. and owner Christina to his marina for club activities at the Forza 1 Performance Center in Temecula, where the Hall of Fame is located. The 2025 and 2026 induction classes will be tentatively awarded on May 3, 2026, in conjunction with the NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship to be held at UCLA.
