Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya said he was “very happy” with making two important penalty saves to secure his side a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
“Of course, for me personally it's a great feeling to be playing in the Champions League for the first time and for the club to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in many years,” he told TNT Sports.
“We played a really good game from the beginning. We took the initiative, created chances and took it to the penalty shootout. “This year we have put a lot of effort into the penalty shootout and we have worked hard with our goalkeeping coach and the team. The effort paid off.”
“It was a great moment individually and collectively. We were very happy to save two penalties in the Champions League and get to the quarter-finals. We made it very difficult over there and they played their game. But it was down to us that we got the goal.''We needed it and we went for a penalty, which was a crazy moment. ”
Porto's Brazilian winger Galeno was the hero of the shootout as his shot was parried away by Raya, sparking wild celebrations.
“Apart from the players, it's mentally tough, but especially for me, having to concentrate every second is something I can't turn off,” Raya added.
“This means everything. You play football for this purpose, but I'm lucky to be able to play for Arsenal, to be in the Champions League and to get to the quarter-finals. Just enjoy it.''
