The clan aims to develop future ice hockey stars.
Plans are afoot to establish a new junior development program called “The Clan Academy,” and the professional ice hockey team has begun discussions with young players, coaches and volunteers to support the program once it is up and running.
The Clun Academy, working in conjunction with Braehead Ice Centre, will initially focus on teaching young people the fundamentals of the game in a fun environment, enabling them to develop the skating and ice hockey skills they need to enjoy the game.
This exciting development with The Clan playing in the British Elite Ice Hockey League will give youngsters the opportunity to eventually become good enough to play competitive ice hockey in their age group.
The Klang Academy will include a Skate to Play program, which will develop youth into skaters good enough to play ice hockey, then move on to the learn to play and skill development phase of the program.
“We may find some promising future stars for Clan coming through our ice hockey academy,” Clan managing director Gareth Chalmers said.
“This is something we have been working hard on for a long time and of course it will be great to see more home-grown talent join the Clan team in the future.
“But first we want to make sure we have the right structures in place for young people who want to skate and learn ice hockey at Braehead Arena.”
The Klang Academy would love to hear from young players who would like to join the Academy, coaches with Level 1, Level 2 and above qualifications who are interested in joining, and volunteers who would like to work with us both on and off the ice.

Gareth added: “We want to hear from young people of all ages but especially the younger age groups so we can give them the maximum amount of time to develop their skills and become hockey players.”
“Once we know the level of interest we can decide how many young people of different ages and ability levels we will accept in the first year. The new academy will then publish further details and accept applications for membership.”
