The Colorado High School Activities Association 2024 Boys Volleyball State Championship is officially underway, with four teams advancing in a double-elimination tournament.
The day started with No. 1 Mountain Vista High School defeating No. 8 Douglas County High School 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 26-24). The Golden Eagles will advance to the second round to face No. 4 Littleton Public School.
LPS defeated No. 5 seed Grandview High School 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19). The game between LPS and Mountain Vista will begin tomorrow at 5 p.m., and whichever team loses will play Douglas County the same day at 7 p.m., with that team looking to avoid elimination.
No. 6 Fountain-Fort Carson defeated No. 3 Eaglecrest High School 3-1 (25-22, 27-25, 10-25, 25-16), completing the only upset of the state championship game thus far.
No. 2 Thornton High School defeated No. 7 Cherokee Trail 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21). Thornton advances to tomorrow's matchup between Fountain and Fort Carson starting at 5 p.m.
In the repechage, Grandview kept its championship hopes alive by defeating Douglas County 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22). Douglas County will play the loser of Fountain-Fort Carson and Thornton.
Eaglecrest also survived a thrilling game against Cherokee Trail, winning 3-2 (25-18, 26-28, 15-25, 25-21, 15-13). They will play the loser of Mountain Vista and LPS tomorrow at 7 p.m.
