YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Thursday will be an exciting day for Tarleton Athletics as the first beach volleyball program will be in Youngsville, La., to compete in the 2024 Conference USA Beach Volleyball Championships.
The 2024 Conference USA Beach Volleyball Championship will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Youngsville Sports Complex (Sugar Beach). This event will feature all nine CUSA beach volleyball programs.
The three-day tournament will feature eight games starting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, with No. 8 seed Tarleton State facing No. 9 Jacksonville State. The format is a double-elimination bracket and a single-elimination championship match.Six games will be played on Friday, and two will be played in Saturday's championship, with the final scheduled for 11 a.m.
“The girls have grown a lot in the past four months, both individually and as a pair,'' says the head coach. Tatiana Tuali'i Umi Said. “I’ve been very impressed with how we’ve dealt with growing pains and focused on getting better game by game, regardless of what the scoreboard looks like.
“All we are focused on heading into this tournament is playing to our strengths, making quick adjustments and applying pressure on every skill set and ball contact,” continued Tuali’i Umi. . “We look forward to finishing our first season on a strong note.”
Tarleton State enters the tournament in its first year with a record of 1 win and 11th place overall. The Texans earned the program's first win on February 24 against Nicholls State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Jacksonville State enters the game with an 0-10 record this season.
Tarleton State University Featured Emma Halcomb and allison bryant In court 1, brianna mcdonough and Grayson Silpik In court 2, Isabel Gonzaba and sydney garrison In court 3, charlize chin and Melina Maldonado Ortiz on court 4, and Faith Wilkins and Rajni Fitzmaurice At Court 5.
Halcomb and Bryant hold the team's best pairing records at 6-6, all on the top court.
If they win the early morning matchup against Jack State, the Texans will face No. 1 seed TCU in the second game of the day (Game 5 on Day 1 of the tournament) at 2:30 p.m. . -7 record and is ranked 6th in the nation in the AVCA rankings.
If the Texans fail in the first game, they will be placed in the Contenders bracket. They will face the loser of No. 2 seed FIU and No. 7 seed Missouri State at 4 p.m. FIU is ranked 14th in the AVCA national rankings.
Tarleton State could potentially play three games on Thursday. If the Texans win Game 1 and lose Game 2, Game 3 will be played at 5:30 p.m. If we lose the first game and win the second game, we will play the third game at 7 p.m.
