The Texas A&M Aggies are scheduled to play in their annual Maroon-White game on Saturday afternoon, where they plan to unveil their new roster.
And now they are led onto the field by the newly elected captain.
Texas A&M linebacker Taurean York and offensive lineman Trey Zuhn III have been named team captains for the 2024 season, according to an announcement from the program.
“It means a lot because I know what it took to get to this point,” York said. “It meant the world to me.”
York, who was one of the Aggies' top defensive players throughout last season, earned 2023 ESPN Freshman All-America honors, was named to the SEC All-Freshman team and was a Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year semifinalist. But there was.
The Temple, Texas, native was also named Dave Campbell's Texas Football Newcomer Defensive Player of the Year.
Zuhn, on the other hand, was similarly impressive for the Aggies last season, appearing in all 12 games and consistently emerging as one of the top pass blockers in the country. He appeared in a total of 28 games over the past three seasons.
Zuhn is also arguably the most important part of the Aggies' defensive line, anchoring the left tackle spot as the team's best pass protector. In fact, he led a line that allowed fewer than two sacks in eight games this season.
And I couldn't be more excited to lead the Aggies in 2024.
“It was great to see how much the team believed in us and what we could do for the team,” Zuhn said.
