College football analysts have named the Tennessee Volunteers the SEC's biggest potential team.
Looking across the college football world, the SEC has a number of teams vying for a spot in this year's expanded College Football Playoff. Georgia and Texas remain the favorites within the group, while Ole Miss, Missouri and Alabama are also in the mix. But according to one college football analyst, it's the Tennessee Volunteers that fans should be keeping an eye on.
Late Kick host Josh Pate named the biggest draw teams from all the Power 4 conferences and has Tennessee in the SEC. The Volunteers have some tough games coming up, but if they can handle it early they're in good position to crack the Top 12. Here's what Pate had to say:
“Tennessee is a big sleeper team in the SEC. They have the sixth-best chance of winning the conference. Niko Imareva is going to be a star. I think what's going on with their wide receiver corps is fantastic. They're underrated talent. Same with their defensive coaching staff. They play Florida and Alabama at home, and Georgia later in the season. If we play well early in the season, we could be in a position where we can lose late in the season and still be in the thick of the CFP race. I hate to say it, but that's where we are right now.”
The Volunteers will travel to Oklahoma and host Alabama in the middle of the year before traveling to Athens to face the Bulldogs. Wins over both the Sooners and the Crimson Tide would be a big boost for the Volunteers and put them in a favorable position to make the playoffs.
Volunteer fans are hoping Iamareva will have a breakout season in his first year as a starter, and the return of key members of Josh Heupel's offensive line could be a recipe for success this season.
