Providence, Rhode Island โ On Thursday, June 20, USA Hockey will host the Providence Tanner Adams (Northport, N.Y.) and Trevor Connelly (Tustin, Calif.) were two of 46 players invited to the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase, held July 26-Aug. 3 in Plymouth, Michigan.
The showcase is designed to evaluate players who will hopefully qualify for the national teams that will compete at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, to be held in Ottawa, Ontario from Dec. 26, 2024 to Jan. 5, 2025. A total of nine games will be played as part of the showcase between the United States, Canada, Sweden and Finland.
Adams, a sophomore at Providence College, ranked second on the Friars' scoring list in 2023-24 with six goals and 15 assists for 21 points, including two power play goals and two game-winning goals. Adams has previous international experience, winning a gold medal with the U.S. at the 2022 World Junior A Challenge and competing in the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. He is eligible for the upcoming NHL Draft and is ranked 140th among North American skaters in the NHL Central Scouting rankings.
Connelly, a freshman, is expected to rank second on the USHL scoring list with 31 goals and 47 assists for 78 points in the 2023-24 season with the Tri-City Storm, averaging 1.50 points per game. At the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, he recorded five goals and five assists in five games for a tournament-high 10 points. Connelly also won a silver medal at the 2024 IIHF U-18 World Championship, recording four goals and five assists for nine points in seven games. He is currently ranked sixth among North American skaters in the NHL's Central Scouting rankings and is expected to be a first-round pick in next week's NHL Draft.
