New Delhi: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly says T20 cricket is an important part of the game and has the potential to develop the game. Ganguly believes that the shortened version of the game will continue to exist and remain an important part of the sport.
He also gave a fair assessment of the T20 format and discussed why it is gaining importance in cricket. Ganguly said this at the Bengal Pro T20 League trophy presentation in Kolkata on Friday.
The Bengal Pro T20 League trophy was unveiled in Kolkata in the presence of Sourav Ganguly, former Indian women's cricketer Jhulan Goswami and Cricket Board of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly.
“It's a great introduction to the game. As with anything, change is inevitable. Many of us who started playing two-day cricket or four-day cricket have no idea that T20 cricket is here to stay and that it's the future. We have to accept that it will affect the game moving forward,โ Ganguly said during the event.
The official franchise-based premier T20 cricket competition of the Cricket Board of Bengal (CAB) is called the Bengal Pro T20 competition.
Talking to the media about the same, Ganguly said, “It (T20 league) is being held in every state. We are probably five to six years behind in this regard. No matter how we play this sport, it will always be It's very helpful. T20 is an important part.” Cricket has become more popular these days and this will be a great opportunity for everyone to perform. โ
The first edition of the Bengal Pro T20 League will begin in Kolkata on June 11, 2024, with eight teams gearing up to showcase their talent on the big stage.
