Former St. Vincent and the Grenadines national table tennis champion David “Sky” Llewellyn has been elected president of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines United States Sports Association.
Mr. Llewellyn's election was made during the group's second biennial general meeting, held on February 24 at the Friends of Crown Heights Education Center in Brooklyn, where new executives were elected. .
Llewellyn, the association's second president, will replace Peter Burke, who did not stand for re-election.
In his farewell speech, Birch outlined the association's long-term goals, including laying the foundations for the long-term growth and development of the sport nationally and in the diaspora, according to a statement from the association.
He also gave a “commendable update” on the association's achievements in its first two years, the statement said.
The group's achievements include: Establishing the Sports Hall of Fame, the Chatoyer Award and the Merit Award as part of the annual Heritage Awards sponsored by St. Vincent and the Society of St. Vincent, which honors previous and current generations of sports Recognize the talents of men and women. Other accomplishments include supporting the Vincy Heat soccer team and working with representatives from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) to raise $4,785 for Team SVG. Donated funds and gear to athletes from Thomas Saunders Secondary School and St. Vincent's Grammar School who participated in the Penn Relays.
