“Words can't express what it means for a kid from a rural area outside of Gillette to represent Wyoming and the Cowboys as the new head basketball coach,” Wicks said. โThis opportunity would never have been possible without the belief that Green Bay President Mike Alexander and Athletic Director Josh Moon had in our mission and vision at UWGB a year ago.โ
Wicks' leadership acumen was recognized during his time in Green Bay, where he was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year and the Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 season. Under his leadership, the team achieved an astonishing 15-game run, the best in NCAA Division I college basketball history.
“We couldn't be more excited to welcome Sundance Wicks to Wyoming,” said Berman. โSundance will bring great energy to our program and to the entire state of Wyoming.โ
Wicks' coaching career includes stints at various institutions, including Missouri Western University and Northern State University, where he held positions ranging from head coach to associate head coach. His extensive background also includes experience at both the Division II and Division I levels, as well as player development and training experience.
A former standout student-athlete, Wicks brings a deep understanding and passion for the game of Wyoming basketball and embodies the spirit of the Cowboy program. As head coach, Wicks aims to uphold the tradition of the brown and gold while charting a path to success on and off the court.
