Lowell, Massachusetts – Massachusetts Lowell High School Ice Hockey Senior Jake Stella (Karlstad, Sweden) has signed a contract with the Rapid City Rush, the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, as announced by the organization on Wednesday, March 20th.
“Jake has been a tireless worker and a versatile player for our team over the past two years,” the head coach said. Noam Bazin. “We are thrilled that he has the opportunity to begin his professional career in Rapid City. This will give him the opportunity to begin climbing the professional hockey ladder. I wish him every success.”
Stella, who served as team captain for the 2023-24 season, finished the year with three goals, six assists, and nine points in 29 games for the River Hawks. The offensive forward also recorded 22 blocks on the season.
During his five-year NCAA Division I career, Stella appeared in 146 games and recorded 61 points (20g, 41a). On the other hand, he joined the River in 2022-23 when he joined pre-season and made an immediate impact with the Hawks, at which time he played in 36 games, scoring 13 points (4g, 9a).
He also excelled in the classroom during his time at Lowell College, earning 2022-23 Hockey East All-Academic Honors while working toward a liberal arts degree with an emphasis in economics and American studies. .
