BLOOMINGTON, Ind. โ Indiana added another talented guard to its backcourt on Saturday by acquiring Kanaan Carlisle, a transfer from Stanford.
Carlisle is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard with three years of eligibility remaining. He is ranked No. 10 among all players in the transfer portal and No. 1 among combo guards by 247 Sports.
Carlisle is Indiana's third transfer this offseason and fourth overall, joining five-star freshman wing Bryson Tucker, Washington State transfer guard Myles Rice, and Arizona State transfer guard Myles Rice. 's transfer center, Omar Baro. Carlisle has experience at point guard and shooting guard, and along with Rice gives Indiana flexibility in the backcourt, as well as returning guards Trey Galloway, Gabe Copps, Jakai Newton and Anthony Leal.
Indiana lost Kel'El Ware, Xavier Johnson, CJ Gunn, Anthony Walker, Caleb Banks and Peyton Sparks from its 2023-24 roster. Currently, coach Mike Woodson has three open scholarships available for the 2024-25 season, his fourth year coaching the Hoosiers.
As a freshman at Stanford in 2023-24, Carlisle averaged 11.5 points, 2.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 38.6% from the field, 32% from 3-point range and 77.6 from the free throw line. % was recorded. This was enough to earn Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention on his team.
Carlisle appeared in 23 games, started 16, and averaged 25.7 minutes per game. His breakthrough performance came on December 31st in a 100-82 win over No. 4 Arizona, scoring 28 points on 6 of 8 3-point shots. For this performance, Carlisle was named the Associated Press' All-American Player of the Week.
Carlisle's good form continued a few weeks later against Washington State, where he scored a career-high 31 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field. During Pac-12 play, Carlisle scored at least 10 points in 13 games. Stanford finished the season with a 14-18 record and fired coach Jerod Haase after eight seasons.
Before attending Stanford, Carlisle was a 2023 graduate and four-star recruit for Atlanta's Overtime Elite. He was ranked No. 52 in the nation and No. 6 among shooting guards and had offers from Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Florida, Kansas, Tennessee and others.
