VanDerveer, 70, retired after last season after 38 years as a Cardinal.
She led Stanford to 14 Final Four appearances and three national titles (1990, 1992, 2021). Vanderveer began his coaching career at the University of Idaho (1978-1980) and also coached at Ohio State (1980-85).
In January, she passed Mike Krzyzewski to become the winningest coach in college basketball history, men's or women's. VanDerveer finished with a record of 1,216-271, including 1,064-220 against the Cardinal.
In addition to dedicating Tara Vanderveer Court in Maples Pavilion in November, Stanford will endow an assistant women's basketball coaching position in Vanderveer's name.
“This gift will go a long way in strengthening the future of Stanford women's basketball,” VanDerveer said in a statement. “I have many great memories of leading the women's basketball program at Maples Pavilion. It's an honor and a little surreal to know that.” My name will be linked in both ways and I look forward to celebrating with all my fans this fall. ”
Stanford hired Kate Paye, one of VanDerveer's longtime assistant coaches, as head coach last month. Paye, who played for the Cardinal from 1991 to 1995, started working for VanDerveer in 2007.
